Manchester United striker RvP out for a month with thigh injury

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been ruled out for a month with a thigh strain after picking up an injury while taking a corner against Champions League opponents Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

Van Persie has endured a campaign disrupted by injury so far after suffering toe and groin problems. Last weekend, he had returned from a month-long absence in the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle.

RvP arrived at Old Trafford for £24m from Arsenal in August 2012 and scored 26 goals while playing all 38 league games last season as United claimed the Premier League title.

Manchester United manager David Moyes said : "It's unfortunate, as our record is good with Wayne Rooney and Robin in the team. We've not had them for quite a period recently."

However, Van Persie has a track record of injury, missing an average of 14 league games each season during his 8 season stay with Arsenal and only playing between 15-28  league games with the Gunners each season.

So Moyes had better come up with a "Plan B" for United.
