FOOTBALL : United States thrash Scotland 5-1

Landon Donovan scored a hat-trick and Michael Bradley and Jermaine Jones grabbed a goal apiece, with an own goal from Geoff Cameron doing little to ease what was a tough night for the Scots.

44,438 fans turned up to Everbank Field in Florida to watch the home side get off to a very fast start with Landon Donovan scoring in the 4th minute, lashing a shot high into the net just inside the six-yard box after seeing an initial effort blocked by Allan McGregor.

The Americans were celebrating again just seven minutes later when Jones found Bradley in plenty of space and he unleashed an unstoppable shot from 30 yards that left the goalkeeper with no chance.

the Scots hauled themselves back into the match when they pulled a goal back four minutes later after a long cross to the back post found Kenny Miller with and the Cardiff forward's header was bundled into his own net by the unfortunate Cameron.

Donvan grabbed the United States' third goal on the hour mark, coolly slotting past McGregor from 10 yards and notched his hat-trick when an effort came off the inside of the post and into the back of the net, beyond the grasp of McGregor.

Jones then wrapped up the scoring with a sizzling header to make the scoreline 5-1 with 20 minutes to go.
