A second-half Mesut Ozil volley proved enough for Germany to edge Ghana 1-0 in an active Group D match - which saw both teams qualify for the second round.
Germany finished as Group D winners and will now meet with arch-rivals England, while Ghana will face the United States.
Both teams were intent on chasing the win and played adventurous football, and the chances were being created at both ends, but half-time came and went with the match still scoreless.
Ozil received th ball just outside the penalty area, and set it up for a powerful shot the sped past Kingson and just inside the right-hand post.
The Europeans played more conservatively thereafter, and their ball retention kept Ghanaian opportunities at a minimum. Sulley Muntari had a half-chance for the west Africans, but his speculative shot from 25 yards flew over the bar.
