2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP) starts

The World Series of Poker has alreeady started in Las Vegas, with the first event beginning on Friday.

It was a $5,000 buy-in "mixed holdem" event (where you have to play both limit holdem and no-limit holdem) and it attracted 452 entrants.

It's taking 3 days to play out and the final table has just been determined with 9 players left after Saturday's play. Check out the Poker Lab Rat blog as they'll give daily updates in their WSOP category.

Other details of the WSOP event is that it's taking 47 days to complete the 55 poker events running from June 1st all the way through to July 17th !!

The "main event" is of course #55 on the list and being the finale does not start until July 6th, while the biggest buy-in event is the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E Championship (Event #39) which starts on the 24th of June.

That's one hell of a buy-in, and the action is sure to be fierce as the professional players seem to consider the H.O.R.S.E event their true World Championship - mind you that's probably because none of them can get near the final table of the main event these days.
